Starting this blog sitting in the Ship Inn on the Holy Island. I was inspired by the connection of Saint Cuthbert  to both Lindisfarne and Cartmel priories. In 685 Cuthbert was granted the lands of Cartmel along with its inhabitants. This is the ruined priory on Lindisfarne which was built much later than Cuthbert's order of monks who had long left the Island.
